Twelve years in a workshop. Eighteen months learning everything others wouldn't.
I ran the marketing for our workshop for years. Some of it myself, some of it paid out to other people. Three agencies over the years, and about $10,000 across the lot. Some months the phone ran hot. Some months it didn't. I couldn't have told you why either one happened.
There is one week I think about more than the rest, and nothing happened in it. That was the point. Same phone. Same quiet. Everything I had been doing and paying for, and no way to tell whether any of it was working, or what I would change to get a different result.
That is when it landed. I didn't know what good marketing was meant to look like. Not the tactics, I could name plenty of those. The shape of it. What it should be producing, on what rhythm, and how I would know.
So I spent eighteen months learning it properly. Two courses, coaching, a national marketing summit, overseas remote training, and a lot of testing on our own workshop's money. At night, around the workshop and a full corporate career.
What I found was that the tactics were never the problem. Every piece of advice I had ever been given was one tactic on its own. Social. Google. Flyers. Radio. All disconnected, none of it adding up to anything. The businesses with predictable marketing weren't doing more tactics. They were running a connected system, on a rhythm.
Nobody was building that for workshops. So I built it for ours. Then I watched it work.Corporate career begins

Johnson's 4WD opens
Nyree and Nathan open a mechanical workshop in Rockhampton, running it alongside the corporate career. The marketing problem starts here.
18 months of learning
After too many others delivered too little, Nyree spends thousands and 18 months teaching herself: websites, Meta ads, Google ads, two courses, coaching, and a national marketing summit.
Marketing Unagency Co. launches
Started by accident. Built deliberately. A deliberately small practice that does what the others wouldn't: transparent, accountable, done-for-you marketing that actually works.
Still running the workshop
Johnson's 4WD is the live proof of concept. Every system we build for clients is running in our own trade business, right now.
